Pick the unit you have, and then the unit you want. The second list only shows units of the same kind, and if there is only one choice it picks it for you. It remembers your last choice for each kind of unit.

Convert

You can type fractions such as 3/8 or 2 1/2. For wire, AWG sizes can be typed as 14, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 or 4/0.

How the unit converter works

Choose the unit you have and the list of units you can convert to narrows to the same kind of unit, so you cannot pick an impossible conversion. It understands fractions such as 3/8 and 2 1/2, and handles wire sizes including AWG.

Steps

  1. Type an amount. Fractions like 3/8 are fine.
  2. Choose the unit in From, then the unit in To. The tool remembers the unit you last chose for each starting unit.
  3. Read the result, or open the table to see the same amount in every unit of that kind.
  4. Use the swap button to turn the conversion around, and Copy to copy the result.

Example

212°F converts to 100°C, and −40°F equals −40°C. For wire, 4/0 AWG is about 107 mm².
