Panel labels

What this makes: each plate is saved as an SVG file (a vector drawing of the outlines and text) that a laser cutter or engraver can read. Open the SVG in your machine's software to cut or engrave it. It can also make STL files for 3D printing. Check the size on screen against your material, and run a test piece first.

How the panel label maker works

Type the labels for a control panel and the tool lays them out as plates on a sheet. Print the sheet, or download an SVG file that a laser cutter or engraver can fabricate. Your layouts are saved in this browser.

Steps

  1. Set the plate or sheet size and the text settings.
  2. Type your labels, one per line or plate.
  3. Check the preview. Adjust font size, spacing and box sizes until the text fits.
  4. Print the sheet, or export the SVG and open it in your laser or engraving software.
  5. Use Export backup at the top to keep a copy of your saved layouts.

Example

A plate sheet for a door of pilot lights and selector switches can be typed in one pass, exported as one SVG, and cut or engraved in a single job.

Questions

What is the SVG for?
SVG is a vector drawing format. Laser cutters and engravers read it directly, so the lettering stays sharp at any size. Open the file in your machine's software and check the scale before you run a job.
Where are my layouts stored?
Only in this browser on this device. Export a backup to keep a copy or move to another computer.
Can I make adhesive warning stickers instead?
Yes, the Sticker designer is built for warning labels, nameplates and notices you print on a sheet.
